Dr. Jaume Gelabert

Dr. Jaume Gelabert received his BA in Spanish Language and Literature at the University of the Balearic Islands in Mallorca, Spain, where he was born and lived prior to moving to the U.S. He taught for a year at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and he then pursued graduate studies, receiving his MA in Spanish from the University of New Mexico, and his PhD in Spanish Applied Linguistics from The Pennsylvania State University in 2004. He taught Spanish and Linguistics at Loyola University Chicago until 2009, when he accepted the position of Director of the Arcadia University Center for Catalan, Spanish and Mediterranean studies. His research interests reside in the wider area of political discourse analysis, precisely pronominal forms and metaphoric language, as well as language pedagogy. He has published in top journals in his field, and he is currently interested in expanding his research to analyzing the linguistic landscape of Barcelona. Dr. Gelabert is also a jazz and blues musician, has not had a TV set for eight years and is an avid FC Barcelona fan.
