The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University, in conjunction with the University of Edinburgh, guarantees your housing in University of Edinburgh accommodation. Although you can submit your preferences, your choices cannot be guaranteed. Please carefully read through the following information and complete your Housing Preference Form on your Arcadia Passport.

Fall and Spring Semester Students: Self-Catered Flats

The University controls several blocks of student flats designed for student living. The flats usually accommodate 3 to 6 people and are mixed gender. All bedrooms are single study rooms (w/ bed, desk and bureau). Utilities (heat/electric) are included in the rent or housing fee you pay to Arcadia. Students are individually responsible for payment of phone bills. Cooking, dining and bathroom facilities are shared.

Students attending the Scottish Parliamentary Program are typically assigned to live in self-catered student flats with other Parliamentary interns. These flats are generally located between the University central campus area and the Parliament building.

For more information about the self-catered flats, please see the University of Edinburgh Housing Information page.

You must provide your own cookware and cutlery. It is strongly recommended that students wait to purchase these items during their Arcadia orientation in Edinburgh. Our Edinburgh Center staff will be able to answer questions and offer suggestions on the best places to purchase these items. It is suggested that £30 should be enough to cover the cost.

Other things you should know about living in a Flat:

The University of Edinburgh offers a bedding pack containing a duvet, bed linen, and pillow, and Arcadia will purchase this on your behalf so that it is available upon arrival. You will need to supply your own towels.

  • You are responsible for preparing your own meals.
  • Self-catered residences have less of a "dorm" feeling, they house between 39-258 students each, and are spread throughout the city (each location has laundry facilities available).
  • A mixture of second and third your students (upperclassmen) are more likely to be living in self-catered flats.
  • Flat locations can be anywhere from a 10-minute walk to a 35-minute walk to the University area of George Square.

Summer Students: Pollock Halls of Residence

Self-catered flats are not available during the summer session. Instead, students participating in the summer program will be housed in single or shared rooms in the University of Edinburgh's Pollock Halls of Residence.

All summer students will have a meal plan covering breakfast and dinner on weekdays and brunch and evening meal on weekends. Students are responsible for their own lunches.

For more information about Pollock Halls, please see the University of Edinburgh Housing Information page.

General Information All Students Must Know

Housing Costs – Arcadia will pay the housing fees to the University of Edinburgh on your behalf. The semester program fee covers housing but not meals. Rent will include electricity costs.

Phone and Internet Access
Phone service is provided and there will be a phone in each bedroom, with voicemail and free calls within the university accommodation system. The phone will also provide normal call facilities to external numbers at standard rates. Phone numbers for rooms are given to students on arrival. University of Edinburgh Accommodation also provides connection facilities for access to the University Intranet and Internet. Students may choose to bring a laptop to use in their rooms but will have to print in the computer lab facilities on campus for a small charge. Please note that laptops are not required! Many students use the excellent computer lab facilities available around the campus for all their work and Internet use.
