Housing

The Lancaster University guarantees you accommodation in one of the eight colleges on campus. University regulations require that you contract to remain in your assigned housing for the full duration of your program.

The Colleges

A wide range of facilities is offered, including common rooms, study areas, recreation and TV rooms, bars, and coffee lounges. Each college charges a fee of around £200 for a key and damage deposit. The charge is refundable provided that there is no damage done to your room. You will pay this fee prior to your departure (when prompted to accept your housing offer). An additional £20-30 will be collected for college events (e.g. cultural and shopping trips, hiking, dances, etc.). Lancaster University does not offer a meal plan, but well-equipped kitchens are available in all colleges. You will, however, need to provide your own cooking utensils, e.g. pans, cutlery, plates, etc. These items may be purchased inexpensively in the city of Lancaster. You will be expected to prepare your own meals or take your meals on a pay-as-you-go basis in a University dining room. There are also many catering outlets on-campus including a pizzeria, Indian restaurant, fish and chip shop, Chinese restaurant, supermarket and several coffee shops.

Linens and Laundry

Students who want a bedding pack in their room must pay for it in cash upon arrival. The cost is £25. A sheet, a duvet (comforter), duvet cover, pillow case and pillow are provided in each pack. Towels are not provided. Launderettes are available on campus for students to do their personal laundry. Please indicate on your Housing Form if you would like a bedding pack.

Telephones/ Computers

All students can have access to telephones in their rooms and cross-campus calls are free. After arrival, you can subscribe to an account which will enable you to make and receive external calls at a lower rate than British Telecom payphones. Each college has a 24-hour access computer room, which is connected to the University’s mainframe system. E-mail can be accessed from these computer rooms. All rooms on campus also have a computer data point, and you can connect your computer to the network point to obtain access to the campus network, email and the internet.

Housing Between Terms

If you would like to remain in your accommodation during part of or the entire long break, the cost will be covered by Arcadia University. Only full year students are eligible for housing over the winter holiday. You will be responsible for making your own arrangements with the accommodations officer and for paying the appropriate fees. You may then submit your receipt to Arcadia’s London Office for reimbursement. You may be asked to change rooms. If you do not wish to remain in your accommodation over the term break, you may be asked to store your belongings. Storage areas will be available to you.
