Arcadia in Istanbul
About Kadir Has University
Kadir Has University (KHU) was established in 1997 as a center of academic and cultural excellence in Turkey.
Based in Istanbul with three campuses, the university offers six areas of study - Engineering, Sciences and Humanities, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Communication, Law and Fine Arts - as well as several vocational schools. KHU has earned an international reputation as a center for research and scientific excellence. Except for law, all classes are taught in English.
Arcadia students will study at the Cibali Campus, which won the Europa Nostra Award in 2003 for the beautiful restoration of an historical place. The university campus is in an ideal location just above the Golden Horn harbor, offering beautiful views of the Golden Horn and the Asian side of the city of Istanbul.
The unique main building of the Kadir Has University consists of four components, or layers - one on top of the other. At the bottom layer there is a Byzantine cistern dating back to the 11th century. The second layer comprises ruins of a historical hammam (Turkish bath) belonging to the Ottoman Empire, and dating back to the 17th century. The former Cibali Tobacco Factory in which the university is based was built in late 19th century on top of this foundation.
Above the Byzantine cistern and the hammam is the Rezan Has museum. The museum has a permanent collection of ancient art and objects and it also hosts numerous art exhibitions and cultural events throughout the year.
Arcadia students will have access to all university amenities, clubs, teams, facilities and societies. Students also will have the opportunity to meet other students at the university restaurant on campus.
There is free Wifi throughout the university, a television studio where a national program is taped, a theater for performances and studios for radio and TV.
