Resident Life Assistant, London Center
Currently a PhD student at the University College of London (UCL) majoring in Materials Chemistry, Nelson obtained his Master’s degree in Materials Science at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, Nigeria. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Statistics with First Class Honours from the University for Development Studies, Ghana. Before coming to London to pursue his Doctorate degree, he was a research fellow at the International Centre for Materials Science of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, India and a Senior Research Assistant at the University for Development Studies, Ghana.
His research interests involve the use of computational modelling and simulation techniques based on density functional theory to (a) obtain information about the atomistic structure and electronic states of materials; (b) understand aspects of chemical bonding and microscopic couplings that are essential to the specific properties of a material; and (c) design new materials or modify existing materials to yield desired properties, or narrow down the choices of new materials for design by experiment.
In April 2011, Nelson joined Arcadia University, The College of Global Studies, as the Resident Life Assistant at Thoresby House, London.
