London Now: Fashion in the City
- Study costume history, fashion illustration and design, trend forecasting and fashion publishing in London!
- This three-week, three-credit course uses London as its classroom, with visits to museums, galleries, markets and studios complemented by a series of visiting lectures.
- Tentative program dates are July 28-August 16, 2014.
- Moore College of Art & Design students will receive an Arcadia University transcript. Credit earned on the program will count towards your undergraduate degree at Moore College of Art & Design.
- Arcadia's experienced, knowledgeable staff offer complete student support in both the U.S. and London.
- All Moore College of Art & Design students will be housed in student accommodation provided by Arcadia University.
The course will be ‘London-centric’, drawing upon everything London has to offer culturally.
Students will be given a reader appropriate to time frame. Classes will typically meet for three hours a day (morning) with afternoons reserved for class related on-site activities. The course is designed to appeal to a broad range of students from the visual arts, and requires no specific disciplinary background.
The course will treat the city of London itself as the ‘classroom’ for students. Over a three-week period, students will learn fashion illustration basics, with visits to museums, galleries, markets, and fashion designers’ studios, as well as having visiting lecturers covering the above areas of expertise.
By the end of the course, students will have gained insight into how fashion illustration is used within the fashion industry for communicative and decorative purposes.
Each student will leave with a portfolio of fashion illustrations, and will also have gained an understanding of basic to intermediate fashion illustration techniques, along with the ability to contextualize their work within the current fashion climate.
