Study Abroad in India
The Alliance for Global Education is a partnership of the Arcadia University College of Global Studies and the Institute for Study Abroad at Butler University, formed with the vision of opening non-traditional destinations to an ever-growing and more diverse U.S. undergraduate population.
Programs
Contemporary India: Development, Environment, Public Health
- Based at the Alliance's center in downtown Pune, a vibrant, bustling city of 3.5 million located a short train ride from Mumbai.
- Choose a field-based component – internship, directed research, or documentary film – and explore critical issues of development within Pune's exciting NGOs, business and technology community, and institutions such as the National Film Archives.
- Enroll in a core course on Contemporary India, and in electives including Social Justice, Development Economics, Environmental Issues, Film, Public Health and Hindi for a total of 15 credits per semester.
- Full range of co-curricular opportunities and urban and rural field trips complements the program curriculum.

Public Health and Indian Studies at Manipal University
- Enables students to live and conduct coursework alongside Indian peers at a premier, private Indian university.
- Introduces U.S. undergraduates to India's most pressing public health issues as well as Indian society, philosophy, media, foreign policy, politics and communications, for a total of 15 credits per semester.
- Public Health Track focuses primarily on health sciences, with direct-enroll course options addressing rural public health, global health, national health policy and Ayurveda. Includes field-based practicum components.
- Indian Studies Track provides a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary look at India's past, present, and future through direct-enroll and specially-designed courses spanning Indian intellectual traditions, media and film, development environmental issues, and politics and foreign affairs.
- All students take a Contemporary Indian Society course exclusively for Alliance students that includes field visits throughout Karnataka and other parts of South India.

NEW FOR FALL 2012! Varanasi: the City, the River, the Sacred
- Varanasi (also known as Benares) occupies a singular spot in India's culture, history and imagination.
- An interdisciplinary core course on the complex intersections of city, river, and sacred that both define Varanasi and place it in the greater context of national and global environmental, urban and religious currents.
- Required 3-credit course in Hindi or Urdu language.
- A 'Culture in Practice' component that can be an internship, a musical, artisanal, an artistic apprenticeship or a directed field research.
- Electives spanning peace studies, religious pluralism, environmental issues, history, yoga practice and philosophy and urban studies.
- Courses will draw upon faculty from Benares Hindu University.
