Study abroad prepartion

You should begin planning for your studying abroad experience at least a year in advance. Here is a timeline of activities to help with your planning:

One Year in Advance

  • Attend a study abroad information session, then discuss your study abroad program with your academic adviser and study abroad adviser.
  • Research your study abroad program. Think about study abroad in terms of your academic and personal goals, language proficiency, finances, and geographical area of interest.
  • Attend a study abroad information session, then discuss your study abroad program with your academic adviser and study abroad adviser.
  • Make a financial plan, apply for scholarships, and budget for your semester abroad.

Semester Prior to Studying Abroad

  • Meet with your academic advisor.
  • Meet with your study abroad advisor to discuss any remaining concerns that you may have.
  • Submit the application, including all supplemental documents, byt the programd eadline. The program manager will send you an e-mail confirming that the application was received and indicating what documents, if any, are missing.
  • Notification of acceptance status 3-6 weeks after submitting the application in its entirety.
  • Contact appropriate CGS Program Manager and discuss any health concerns or disabilities that may require support while abroad.
  • Individual preparation.
  • Attend the study abroad orientation on campus. The orientation session will take place in April for the fall semester abroad and December for spring semester abroad.
  • Discuss self-help plan if under care of a physician, psychologist or psychiatrist.
  • Think about any medical needs you may have, especially how you will be getting the medicine supplied to you while abroad. Contact Arcadia's College of Global Studies for specific information related to the laws of the country where you'll be studying. Discuss any physical or mental health issues with your doctor.
