Certificate of Advanced Study (C.A.S.)

Certificates of Advanced Study (C.A.S.), post-master's degree, are available in the following areas:
- Computer Education
- Curriculum
- Early Childhood Education
- Educational Leadership
- Elementary Education
- Environmental Education
- Language Arts
- Mathematics Education
- Reading
- Science Education
- Secondary Education
- Special Education
The Certificate of Advanced Study program is designed for teachers who have completed a master’s degree and want to pursue further systematic study in education to develop special interests or to gain strength in specific areas. The emphasis of the program is on self-directed learning and research and may lead to additional certification.
Students who want to add instructional certification also must meet the requirements specified by the State of Pennsylvania. All aspects of the certification requirements must be planned with and approved by the certification officer.
Specific Admission Requirements
In addition to the general admission procedures, the following requirements must be met:
1. A master's degree from an accredited college or university. (No credit will be accepted in transfer toward the Certificate of Advanced Study program.)
2. A valid teaching certificate, or evidence of two years of successful and appropriate work experience.
Certificate of Advanced Study Requirements
(a minimum of 30 credits)
1. Research Course (3 credits)
2. Individualized Program Design (21–24 credits)

- Option B: Concentration Courses and Certification Requirements
3. Research or Curriculum Project (3–6 credits)
