Master of Arts in Humanities Faculty

ChauhanDr. Pradyumna S. Chauhan provides an example of Arcadia’s global perspective. He guest edited the South Asian Review’s 2005 special issue V.S. Naipaul: His Ideas, Work and Art, a 427-page publication of global scholarship on Naipaul. He chaired sessions at the Modern Language Association and South Asian Literary Association annual meetings in 2005. He also wrote an article on “South-Asian American Writers” in The Greenwood Encyclopedia of Multi-Ethnic American Literatures (2005) and published a bio-critical essay on the contemporary Irish novelist and short-story writer Anthony Glavin in the Dictionary of Literary Biography (2005).

WertimeDr. Richard Wertime often shares with students and literary audiences his experiences in publishing.“A central paradox of writing, especially of creative writing,” he notes, “is that it is at once a profoundly (and unavoidably) solitary activity; and yet it is at the same time a communal, even a ‘corporate’ undertaking, especially as one moves toward publication.” He published his memoir, Citadel on the Mountain: A Memoir of Father and Son, which won the James A. Michener Memorial Prize in 2001. This was the first memoir to win this prize, which is normally given to a work of fiction. He also has a novel in progress, San Giovanni, a ghost story set in an ancient Tuscan hill town in the 1980s.
