Procedures for Admission to Teacher Certification Programs
Prospective students seeking teacher certification may do so through a master’s degree program or a certification program. Admission requirements are the same for both programs. Applicants must be accepted into the graduate studies program before they can proceed with a program leading to Pennsylvania Department of Education certification. (See individual programs for the specific admission requirements for each certification area.) Passing scores on the Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills examinations in Reading, Writing and Mathematics are required for admission to all education programs, master’s and/or certification, leading to the first Instructional I certification. All education students are required to submit completed Act 34 (Criminal Record Check) and Act 151 (Pennsylvania Child Abuse History) clearances prior to any field experience that would put the student in direct contact with schoolchildren. In addition, out-of-state students are required to obtain F.B.I. clearances. Clearances are valid for one year only. Any citations on these forms may impede certification. All cases are considered on an individual basis by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Arcadia’s certifications programs are designed to meet the standards of the Pennsylvania Department of Education and do not guarantee reciprocity with any other states.
