Grey Towers Castle Restoration: Original Dining Room is Restored

Grey Towers Castle, a National Historic Landmark, is often cited by alumni as “one of my most vivid memories of my Beaver College/Arcadia University education.” These memories are being renewed for new generations of students as the original dining room on the main level is being restored. Work includes removal of fluorescent lighting, revealing hidden accent lights, painting and highlighting the ornate ceiling to recreate its original look, and restoration work on the hand-carved wood paneling and fireplace. Architectural elements of the Castle’s main floor were inspired by features of several European castles, and the Castle is credited as having the largest collection of Baumgarten tapestries still displayed in their original location. The Campaign is seeking to restore other Castle rooms including the metal and glass Conservatory on the south terrace.
