They Shaped Arcadia—And Their Impact Will Be Remembered
This year, two distinguished members of the Arcadia community are retiring. Together, Dr. Michael L. Berger, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost (pictured left), and Jay Vogel, Vice President for University Advancement (pictured right), have served Arcadia for more than 40 years.
"They have helped to bring the University to new heights of educational excellence. Through their efforts, Arcadia students are enjoying new academic programming taught by increased numbers of faculty, all aided by the tremendous success in the growth of our resources," says President Jerry Greiner.
To honor their outstanding leadership and commitment to educational excellence, Arcadia has established lasting tributes for both of them.
The Michael L. Berger Faculty Scholars and Artists Fund provides annual support for faculty research and scholarly and creative activities. "The Faculty Scholars and Artists Fund grew out of discussions with a focus group of faculty during the planning stages of At Home & In the World—The Campaign for Arcadia University," says Dr. John Hoffman, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Co-Chair of the Faculty Campaign. "As the faculty portion of the Campaign began, Dr. Berger assisted with the planning to ensure that the fund was available to all faculty members regardless of academic discipline. Naming the fund after him is a way to honor his dedication and commitment to the faculty."
Vogel is being honored through the Jay Vogel Endowed Scholarship, which will assist students who could not otherwise afford to attend Arcadia. "This scholarship provides a unique opportunity to honor Jay in a way that will provide a lasting and living tribute to him in an area that is so very close to his heart," Greiner says.
