Arcadia Cares Future Plans

  • Arcadia University will revisit former goals and objectives and revitalize the effort with a new, more robust program.
  • The University will provide additional education and coordination efforts within the community.
  • Arcadia will engage in enhanced research, development, and monitoring of all campus programs—continuous improvement being the goal.
  • The University will update campus strategies, including mapping and inventory of all objectives.
  • In addition, Arcadia University will expand this effort by considering:
    • Creating a daily, weekly, monthly, summer/winter break protocol for system conservation (i.e. shutting off computers when not in use and shutting off all appliances).
    • Engaging food service and determining what food wastes can be diverted from the waste stream and donated to soup kitchens and/or farmers for livestock feed.
    • Using waste cooking oil for bio-fuel to run University vehicles.
    • Wind power
    • Solar power
    • Green roofs
    • Green walls
    • Less pavement
    • Installing indoor trees and shrubs in various campus buildings that can support this plant stock – Kuch Center, Boyer Hall, etc.
    • More exterior trees and plant material.
    • Creating a University greenhouse for in-house plant production.
    • Participating in the Philly Car Share Program.
    • Participating in the Phill-Abundance Food Program.
    • Expanding the Oak Summit Recycling program into a more robust and responsive collection system.
    • Investigation into utilizing an application of a salt water Brine solution in lieu of harsh road salts for the winter de-icing program. It would be an environmentally friendly, low cost solution to this perennial problem.
