Arcadia University Community Cinema Present More Than a Month, Feb. 16

Glenside, PA—Feb. 1, 2012—Arcadia University and the ITVS Community Cinema film series present More Than a Month, on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 5 p.m. in the Great Room of the new Commons student center. This ITVS Community Cinema presentation is free and open to the public. Arcadia University is located at 450 S. Easton Road, Glenside, Pa.

What would happen if Black History Month no longer existed? That’s the question at the heart More Than a Month by filmmaker Shukree Hassan Tilghman. Tilghman wonders if it’s time to put an end to what he feels has become a rote exercise, and to free black history from the confines of February and ensure that it is thought of as year-round, mainstream American history. He sets off on a cross-country campaign that explores the complexity and contradictions of relegating an entire group’s history to one month in a so-called “post-racial” America.

Arcadia film screenings are followed by a panel discussion that includes featured speakers and Arcadia University faculty.

The ITVS Community Cinema series at Arcadia University is part of a local producing affiliate in Suburban Philadelphia/Montgomery County through the PBS series Independent Lens.
