Arcadia University Community Cinema Presents Hell and Back Again, April 12

Glenside, PA—March 21, 2012—Arcadia University’s Community Cinema Series presents Hell and Back Again on Thursday, April 12 at 4 p.m. in the University Room of Landman Library. The film is free and open to the public. Arcadia is located at 450 S. Easton Road, Glenside, Pa.

What does it mean to lead men in war? What does it mean to come home—injured physically and psychologically—and build a life anew? In Hell and Back Again directed and filmed by Danfung Dennis two overlapping narratives are intercut—the life of a Marine at war on the front, and the life of the same Marine in recovery at home—creating both a dreamlike quality and a strikingly realistic depiction of how Marines experience this war.

U.S. Marine Sergeant Nathan Harris, 25 leads his unit to fight a ghostlike enemy in Afghanistan. Wounded in battle, Harris returns to North Carolina and his devoted wife Ashley to fight pain, addiction, and the terrifying normalcy of life at home.

Arcadia film screenings are followed by a panel discussion that includes featured speakers and Arcadia University faculty.

The ITVS Community Cinema series at Arcadia University is part of a local producing affiliate in Suburban Philadelphia/Montgomery County through the PBS series Independent Lens. To learn more about the film, and the issues involved, visit the film’s companion website at
