Conference at Arcadia University to Examine Ways to Make Schools Safe and Welcoming
On Friday, Sept. 30, Arcadia University’s School of Education welcomes members of the educational community to the fourth annual Creating Safe and Welcoming Schools Conference, which offers a forum to discuss the best practices of creating safe schools and community spaces for children and adults of diverse sexualities and gender expressions.
Dr. Jeanne Stanley, a licensed psychologist and an Adjunct Full Professor at the University of Pennsylvania in the Graduate School of Education’s Counseling program, will deliver a keynote address on the struggles school districts face in regard to educating gender expressive and transgender students. The conference’s wide range of presenters and resources will focus on building strong school communities for lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer/questioning students, with a particular focus on the needs of transgender and gender nonconforming students.
The conference is open to anyone involved in creating welcoming school environments, including teachers, principals, aides, allies, family members, and high school and college students.
The School of Education at Arcadia University is dedicated to creating safe and affirming spaces for all students and continues to improve on best practices through this conference.
Conference Fees
- $70 for professionals, family members, allies
- $10 for non-Arcadia students (college or high school)
- $5 for Arcadia students, faculty, and staff (advanced registration is required)
Scholarships are available for students and family members. Conference fees include a light breakfast and lunch. Check-in for the conference begins at 8 a.m.
