Dr. Andrea Crivelli-Kovach, professor of Public Health and director of Graduate Programs, received the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) F. Marian Bishop Outstanding Educator of the Year Award during the APTR Annual Conference Awards Luncheon on April 10 in Philadelphia.  

Dr. Crivelli-Kovach joined the Arcadia faculty in 1996 as the director of the Health Education program. During her tenure at Arcadia, she grew the Health Education program into the Department of Public Health as founding chair of the department, which now offers a Master of Science in Health Education, a Master of Public Health program accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, four dual degree programs, an undergraduate minor in Global Health, and the Bachelors of Science in Public Health with a concentration Global Health.

Prior to joining Arcadia’s faculty, Dr. Crivelli-Kovach worked as an assistant professor at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, held adjunct affiliations with the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University, and co-founded a nutrition and lifestyle consulting practice with a nurse practitioner colleague, Health Choices Unlimited. In 2005, Andrea received grants from APTR to develop undergraduate courses in Public Health and Epidemiology, which were the basis for the undergraduate minor and eventually the new major in Global Health. She has been a member of the APTR Public Health steering committee since 2007.

“I was deeply touched and honored to receive the award,” said Dr. Crivelli-Kovach. “I’ve spent so many years putting these programs together– receiving this award was like closing the loop.”

Dr. Crivelli-Kovach earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Immaculata College, a master’s degree in Nutrition Education from Immaculata College, and a doctorate in Community Public Health with a focus in Maternal and Child Health/Women’s Health from Temple University.

The APTR, founded in 1942, is the national membership association for medical and health professions institutions advancing preventative medicine, health education, and research. The F. Marian Bishop Educator of the Year Award is presented to educators who have contributed to the instruction of students or residents in the field of public health and prevention. The award is named after the late F. Marian Bishop, Ph.D, MSPH, a previous president of APTR.
