Wade Judges Inaugural Student Playwright Fellowship
Mark Wade, director of Arcadia’s Theater Arts Program and assistant professor of Visual and Performing Arts, was featured in a Feb. 12 article by Broadway World for judging the NYC Public High School Student Playwriting Fellowship, an award created to both honor young playwrights and provide them access to some of New York City’s professional artists.
Wade was among a panel of judges that included playwrights, directors, and literary managers tasked with selecting winners of this exclusive honor, which is sponsored by the Lucille Lortel Theatre Foundation.
High school students from all New York City boroughs submitted original 10-minute one-act plays for a chance to be mentored by career playwrights and see their work come alive during a special professionally directed, one-night-only performance at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in Manhattan on March 24.
A graduate of The Yale School of Drama in Acting, Wade has directed many productions at Arcadia, including The Laramie Project, The Wind in the Willows, an all-female version of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, and award-winning productions including Home (recipient of Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Ensemble Acting by the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival) and The Swing of the Sea (a world premiere and winner of the Harold and Mimi Steinberg National Playwriting Award).
