This June, The College of Global Studies celebrates Pride month around the world with a series of in-person and virtual events for students in their host countries.

Granada, Spain
June 22: A lecture with Olivia Avila Ruiz to discuss the work with LGBTQ+ activists in Granada
June 24: A Gabriel Lopez performance, iBaila, maricón!, on YouTube.
June 25: Efebos Tristes book presentation on homosexual iconography
June 26: The main event of the month: Participation in the Pride march in Granada.
June 28: A walking tour of Granada with Lolita Tours that explores the history of Pride in the city.
June 29: The streaming of the movie “The White Cow” followed by a discussion with director Carlos Alonso.

Dublin, Ireland
The theme for Dublin Pride 2021 is Community, with a focus on promoting the vital work of LGBTQ+ organizations and services. Inspired by the Annual International Pride Photo Award contest, this Summer the Dublin Center will celebrate Pride through a different lens: a camera lens.

Photos (with permission) will be posted to the Center’s Instagram and other social media platforms. Those students who would like to earn a Co-Curricular Learning Certificate can also write a reflective piece on what this photo says to them. Intern Philly
In honor of Pride, Intern Philly hosted Bob Skiba, curator of the John J. Wilcox Archives of Philadelphia, for a discussion on what it was like to be queer in America in the 1950’s and 60’s. He also explored Philadelphia’s unique response to that period by staging the Annual Reminder demonstrations every July 4 from 1965 to 1969 in front of Independence Hall—the first organized, regularly occurring protests for gay rights in the states, even before Stonewall.
