Arcadia offers a lot of opportunities, but one of the most intriguing to me was, and still is, study abroad. College is about global education and personal growth - you really begin to find yourself in college, and I think that immersion in a completely new environment is a great way for you to truly learn about yourself.
The social issues that drive me to be a Civic Scholar are Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ+, and Immigration because each of these groups are about individuals who are greatly misunderstood and they deserve to be properly represented/advocated for. Justice, to me, means representation, reparations, and absolute resolution for any wrongs.
I would describe Civic & Global engagement as a community that supports and nourishes your growth as a student, a civic activist, and a world traveler! It feels like home!
International Student Services
International students are supported by our dedicated international student advisers. We provide pre-departure support, a pre-orientation program, and various events throughout the semester. Local students interested in connecting with international students can join our IPAL program.
The Civic & Global House and Lounges
We invite all students to use Civic and Global Engagement House, as a space for studying, relaxing, spending time with friends, and of course connecting with staff about the various local and global opportunities available to you.
Our Open Student Lounge Hours are:
Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Join us for Tea Tuesdays at 12:00pm
Need a break from studying or a caffeine boost or a snack? Stop by the Civic and Global Engagement House for a casual cup of tea. Our staff may even add some extra treats, activities or crafts. Come by every or any Tuesday of the semester.
Study Abroad
Our many study abroad programs will allow you to explore new cultures, learn outside the classroom, gain international internship experiences, become more independent and confident, and become part of the host communities in which you live and study. Which ones you pursue is up to you - study abroad advisers will help you select the best plan for your academics, career and personal goals.
Civic Action
Getting involved with the local community and working for a better world gives you the opportunity to build your leadership and teamwork skills, be a part of something bigger than yourself, and make a difference. Whether you’re getting out the vote, working with peers to push for social change, or building your resume through a Community-Based Work Study role at a local school or nonprofit organization, our opportunities for civic action provide you with hands-on experience in what it takes to make a positive social impact.
