How Arcadia Influenced My Path
A truly global experience at Arcadia has led me down an unlikely path. I spent two months in Uganda during my final year at Arcadia in 2006, and I have spent time in Uganda every year since. I’ve spent more time living in foreign countries since I graduated than I have in the U.S.! Arcadia helped open my eyes to the possibilities beyond the borders of my own country and encouraged a sense of exploration and adventure that has continued to grow within me.
Greatest Achievement
I moved to Sudan—which then became South Sudan—and learned how to survive and in many ways, thrive in a culture very different than what I knew. I learned to get water from the borehole, cook over charcoal, survive without electricity, speak a new language, make cross-cultural friends, work in the local health center with an all South-Sudanese staff, and function in everyday life while enjoying it immensely.
A truly global experience at Arcadia has led me down an unlikely path.
