Arcadia Exhibitions presented awards to three students for their work in the new exhibit titled “The Royal Visit: A Juried Student Photography Exhibition,” featuring photos of the 125 Royal Avenue property, site of the former Bishop McDevitt High School, that the University purchased last year. 

The three awards, given at a reception on April 4, included:

The exhibition, on display in the Rosedale Gallery, University Commons, runs through June 11, 2023, and consists of 12 photographs taken by 10 students as part of a competition to document the historic property before it undergoes renovations to serve the future needs of Arcadia University. The show was juried by Adam Hess, director of Landman Library. 

Students were offered the opportunity to tour the facility and photograph the offices, classrooms, laboratories, athletic facilities, theater stage, cafeteria, chapel, television studio, grounds, and other spaces, as well as some unique objects that were left by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia after the sale of the building. 

In some cases, chalkboard writing, decorations, and artwork, as well as equipment, and pictures of faculty and students, remained untouched in the building after the school closed at the end of the 2020-2021 academic year. 

Overall, 75 images were submitted by 25 students. Selected winning photos are from Kelsie Winship ’26, Willow Edmonds ’26, Makenzie Hillegass ’23, Trinity Z Peters ’23, Jewel T. Miller ’24, Becca Hoyer ’26, Caeden Conklin ’25, Claire Griffin ’22, Diego McLendon ’26, and Masai Pines-Elliot ’25.

The selected photographs have been printed and professionally framed for the exhibition. The framed images will be given to the participating students at the conclusion of the exhibition.
