Barb Micucci, long-term Adjunct Professor in the graduate program in Counseling Psychology and Coordinator of the School Counseling concentration, won the 2010 School Counselor of the Year award bestowed by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). In addition to her Arcadia role, Micucci is a school counselor at Caley Elementary School, King of Prussia, Pa.

The award is designed to honor “the best of the best-school counselors who are running top-notch comprehensive school counseling programs,” says Eleonora Bartoli, Assistant Professor and Director of the Counseling Psychology graduate program. “Out of more than 100,000 school counselors nationwide, less than 100 get nominated, with only one selected as School Counselor of the Year.”

In her role as School Counselor of the Year, Micucci will be honored at the School Counselor of the Year Gala in Washington, D.C. She also will participate in a congressional briefing and will be featured on the cover of the ASCA magazine, which will contain a lengthy interview describing her work. She will be interviewed by numerous radio stations across the country. “We have the great fortune to have someone of Ms. Micucci’s caliber infusing our program with her expertise, and we are inspired by her incredible achievement,” Bartoli adds. “This is an incredible honor and achievement on her part, as it gives her the highest national recognition in her field. Micucci was nominated by her Caley Elementary School Principal, Susan Silver. “A school counselor for 23 years, Micucci plans to use her new status to expand her professional advocacy,” reports the School Counselor of the Year program. “On her agenda is working toward the mandating of elementary school counselors across the United States.
