McElhatton Ends Collegiate Career with All-Conference Nod
The Middle Atlantic Conference announced the 2012 All-Commonwealth Conference baseball teams and named Arcadia University senior Mike McElhatton (Haddon Heights, N.J.) to the Second Team as a third-basemen.
McElhatton’s play throughout the year not only helped Arcadia in a late-season playoff hunt but contributed to the program’s most successful campaign since 2008. He was part of a seven-member senior class that, under the leadership of first-year head coach Ken Spangenberg ’08, acheived more wins in its final season than in the previous three.
The senior contributed with both his bat and his glove at the hot-corner, starting 27 games this season. Batting .312, he produced 7 multi-hit games, highlighted by a perfect outing against conference rival Widener University at Erny Field on April 5. He recorded 17 runs scored and drove in 17 more on 29 hits, including 5 doubles. He led the team with 4 sacrifice flies. Defensively, he held the left corner down for Arcadia, recording 156 put-outs at third, and helped out with 11 more while only making 6 errors all season.
Over his four year career he charted 96 career hits, 59 RBI and scored 62 runs for the Scarlet and Grey and will receive his undergraduate degree in History in May from the University.
