Martín Publishes Journal Article, Two Book Chapters
Dr. Favian Alejandro Martín, assistant professor of criminology and criminal justice, published an article titled “The Coverage of American Indians and Alaskan Natives in Criminal Justice and Criminology Introductory Textbooks” in Critical Criminology: An International Journal. For his article, Martín conducted a content analysis on 31 introductory criminal justice and criminology textbooks, and found American Indians and Alaskan Natives to be underrepresented despite experiencing high levels of crime, victimization, and justice-related problems.
In addition, Martín has also written two book chapters for American Indians at Risk, edited by Dr. Jeffrey Ian Ross, professor in the School of Criminal Justice at the University of Baltimore. The book provides an overview of the myriad of contemporary social problems plaguing the American Indian population, which can be traced to the social ills of colonialism. The two book chapters that Martín contributed to the book focus on juvenile delinquency and mental health issues.
