Holly Moore ’23MPH, an alumna of the Master of Public Health program at Arcadia University, presented her capstone research project at the American Public Health Association’s (APHA) annual meeting and expo. Her study sought to analyze state public health websites for evidence of cultural competence and concluded that most sites require significant improvement in prioritizing cultural competence and humility concept integration.

Moore–who was featured as a “Grad Knight to Know” earlier this year–was recognized as a recipient of the Kathleen Demery Valverde Endowed Award for Excellence in Research from the College of Health Sciences, which allowed her to present her capstone research at the conference.  Her research was presented as part of a Roundtable discussion titled “Prioritization of Cultural Competence and Humility in U.S. State Health Departments”. Throughout her research, she was advised by Dr. Suzanne Redington, assistant professor of Public Health at Arcadia.

The APHA’s annual meeting and expo focuses on overcoming the social and ethical challenges that public health workers face in America. The AHPA’s mission is to improve the health of the public and achieve equity in health status, which they strive to achieve by sharing the latest news and research, best practices, and advocating for the health of all people.
