Frequently Asked Questions
What is philanthropy?
Philanthropy is defined as charitable giving, stemming from the desire to be part of something bigger than one’s self and the kindness of the philanthropist’s spirit, to organizations, institutions, and causes that are personally meaningful. Every charitable gift, no matter the size, is a significant philanthropic contribution and a signal of deep care for Arcadia University.
What is the Senior Class Gift?
The Arcadia University Senior Class Gift is an opportunity for graduating students to participate in one of the University’s alumni traditions: leaving a legacy of care for Arcadia University as you graduate. When you make a senior class gift, you’ll be joining thousands of alumni across the world who continue to care for Arcadia and its students after they graduate.
Why does my gift matter?
Your gift shows you care about the legacy of Arcadia University and its students well beyond your graduation - and just how much we can do together! Your gift is your first chance to support what you love about your alma mater and make a direct impact on and off campus. It’s all about showing your love and appreciation for Arcadia University through giving back and paying it forward.
If you’re wondering how it all adds up, think about the current student fee to participate in Preview: $795. When 40 members of the Class of 2023 give $20.23, that’s one more student who can attend Preview who may have not been able to have the experience. When you pay it forward, Arcadia students like you can dream big and experience the best of Arcadia.
How much should I give as part of the Senior Class Gift?
Your senior class gift can be any amount that feels meaningful to you. Consider honoring your class year with a gift of $20.23!
Where can a senior donate?
In efforts to encourage the Class of 2022 to give to the areas most meaningful to them, the Senior Class will not be purchasing a physical gift for Arcadia University, but instead, focusing their efforts toward where the members of the class would like to support.
Your gift supports the fund(s) you designate when you make your gift. You can donate to The Fund for Arcadia which is a critical fund because all monies raised will go towards Arcadia’s most immediate strategic needs. Additionally, you can also pick from one of the funds designated by your Senior Class Officers as most important to the senior class. These funds will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Don’t see the area or program you’d most like to support? You can search for the program, department, or area of the University most meaningful to you under “Other Designation” and make your gift to the fund of your choice.
What is the paver program? How much does an engraved brick cost?
The paver program offers the opportunity for seniors and alumni to have a brick on the Alumni Walk of Pride engraved with their name and graduation year. The cost to participate in the paver program as seniors is $250.
When you participate in the paver program, you aren’t “buying a brick!” Instead, you’re making a gift to The Fund for Arcadia and being recognized for that gift’s significance. In addition to the donation, the amount covers the cost of engraving your name and keeping that brick maintained in perpetuity. When you return to campus for your 50th reunion, your contribution to the Alumni Walk of Pride will be there!
Seniors who make their own gift as a part of the paver program will be counted as having made a Senior Class Gift. Seniors who have others make a paver gift on their behalf (i.e. family members, mentors) are encouraged to make a Senior Class Gift on their own to be part of the Class of 2023’s legacy! To have your name engraved on the Walk of Pride by Commencement, sign up by March 1, 2023.
You can participate in the paver program at any time during your student career and at any time after you graduate. While many choose to participate as seniors to celebrate this milestone, you may participate as an alumnus. If this year isn’t good for you, consider commemorating your five-year reunion or a new professional role with a paver.
