Arcadia University Professor of Physical Therapy Jan S. Tecklin, was inducted into the West Chester University College of Health Sciences Sturzebecker Hall of Fame on Oct. 23. He also was honored with a proclamation from the State Senate of Pennsylvania.

The Sturzebecker Hall of Fame established in 1997 honors alumni of West Chester University for their positive role models for students, which embodies what Dr. Russell L. Sturzebecker stood for throughout his career at West Chester University. Sturzebecker was a national and international leader in the physical education community during the last several decades of the 20th century.

Tecklin has been a leader in care, teaching, and research for individuals with cystic fibrosis during his 40-year care in physical therapy, serving as a physical therapist from 1972-82 at the Hahnemann Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Center and from 1998-2007 at the Cystic Fibrosis Center of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

He authored and edited two textbooks, Cardiopulmonary and Physical Therapy and Pediatric Physical Therapy, each in its fourth edition, with a total of 100,000 copies sold. He served six years as Associate Editor of Physical Therapy, a national professional journal.

During his career, he also has received numerous certificates and awards, including being named the 2005 Professor of the Year at Arcadia University.

Tecklin earned a B.S. in Health and Physical Education 1969 and in 1970 earned a Certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania.  In 1982, Tecklin earned an Advanced Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Temple University.

He is a Founding Officer of West Chester’s Gamma Alpha Chapter of Phi Epsilon Kappa, a national professional physical education fraternity.
