Michael Linkinhoker ’92, who earned a B.A. in Scientific Illustration from Arcadia University and a Master of Arts in Medical and Biological Illustration from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, participated in “Celebrating 100 Years: Teaching Excellence in Medical Illustration” in July.

As a student in Arcadia’s Scientific Illustration program Linkinhoker says, “I really enjoyed the multidisciplinary aspect of the program. Being able to effectively focus on two majors, art and biology, allowed me to develop both sides of my intellect in a broad manner. It has been essential in developing an interesting, challenging, and creative career in biomedical visualization.

“A great education comes down to great teachers, and that indeed was my experience. The small classes enabled me to have much one-on-one time with the faculty that led to a more in-depth and fulfilling learning process. Some particularly influential and inspirational faculty  were Betsey Batchelor, Bob Mauro, Dennis Kuronen, Dr. Archie Vomachka, and Dr. Art Breyer. The program prepared me well for applying and being successful in graduate school. The broad range of science was exactly what I needed.”

Linkinhoker also studied abroad at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.

He is co-founder and principal of Link Studio, LLC, which is board certified by the Association of Medical Illustrators and is located in Baltimore, Md. He also is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where he teaches graduate level courses.  His design and illustration work has been recognized by Communications Arts, Illustrators Club of Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia and the Association of Medical Illustrators.
