Alison Lutton ’93M recently edited a book which presents the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) revised national standards for professional preparation and ongoing professional development as well as other related resources, titled Advancing the Early Childhood Profession: NAEYC Standards and Guidelines for Professional Development. Lutton earned a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Arcadia University in 1993.

NAEYC’s national standards help to raise the quality of professional development programs and systems, and professional practice, creating a common national framework that describes what early childhood professionals are expected to know and be able to do. They are the basis for national accreditation of early childhood teacher preparation programs. This new book is a compendium of those standards and other resources for the entire early childhood field, across all roles and settings.
