JAMK University in Finland Visits The College of Global Studies
The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University was delighted to host a delegation from the prestigious JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Finland on Friday, August 17.
Professor Asta Wahlgren, Dean, and Risto Korkia-Aho, Director of International Programs, The School of Business and Services Management, JAMK, held a series of meetings with faculty from The College of Global Studies and with Dr. Steve O. Michael, Arcadia University Provost, Dr. NJ Delener, Founding Dean of the School of Global Business, Jan Finn, Associate Dean for International Affairs, and Dennis Dutschke, Founding Academic Dean of The College of Global Studies.
The meetings were to introduce new ideas and strategies that will further close collaboration between The College and JAMK. Dr. Douglas Michelle Turco, Associate Dean at The College of Global Studies, described the day as very positive. “There are some great opportunities to explore in many areas, and today was a great success. I look forward to examining deeper the many ways in which we can work together to produce exciting learning opportunities for students,” he said.
Located in Jyväskylä, Finland, JAMK is an internationally oriented higher education institution with an enrollment of 8,000 students. In 2012, its School of Business and Service Management was awarded the prestigious EPAS accreditation.
Sport Business School Finland is a partnership between the sport management programs within the School of Business and Service Management at JAMK and Haaga-Helia University. Dr Kari Puronaho and Risto Rasku head SBS Finland. Dr. Puronaho is former Secretary General and founding member of the European Association for Sport Management (EASM).
SBS Finland is a worldwide leader in sport marketing field research, conducting studies at the World Ice Hockey Championships, WRC Neste Oil Rally, FIFA World Cup, and UEFA EURO Cup, among others, and hosting the annual Future of Sport Marketing Conference.
Dr. Douglas Michele Turco is an advisor to and has collaborated with SBS Finland on several research projects. SBS Finland has proposed to co-host (with St Petersburg State University of Services and Economics) the 2014 International Sport Business Research Symposium during the Sochi Winter Olympic Games. The Symposium has been held during every Olympiad this century. Dr Turco coordinated the Symposium in Beijing 2008.
