In January, during a trip to the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Regional II (KCACTF) at Towson University in Towson, Md., Theater major Amanda Sharp earned the Costume Design Award Honorable Mention for her contributions to Arcadia University Theater’s spring 2012 production of Lillian Hellman’s The Children’s Hour. She was selected for this honor ahead of student designers from universities throughout the nine-state region.

Sharp is no stranger to theater having participated in last year’s festival at Indiana University in Indiana, Pa., where she was selected as the regional winner in Costume Design for her work on Club California and received an invitation to present at the United States Institute for Theater Technology Conference in Long Beach, Calif., in March 2012. She also has designed costumes for Arcadia’s production of Swing of the Sea, a two-time sell-out performance at the 2012 KCACTF. The production was one of eight performed at the festival and received a Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Ensemble Acting.

Sharp was among several students and faculty from Arcadia’s Theater program to attend the festival, including Mark Wade, Assistant Professor and Director of Arcadia University’s Theater program; Alisa Kleckner, Costume Shop Manager, Resident designer and Design Professor; Larry Loebell, Adjunct Professor of Playwriting; and theater students Alexa Simone, Emma Ditnes, Jillian Schwab, Amanda Sharp, Sam Merritt, Sara Mitchell, Meghan Wahl, Will Olega, Ian Agnew, and Logan Kuba. “The KCACTF is the ideal environment for theater students to network and grow their craft,” says Wade.
