Prepared to travel a collective 183,106 miles as part of the University’s Preview program, Arcadia students warmed their hands, posed for pictures, and sang “So Long, Farewell” in front of Taylor Hall before boarding buses headed to the airport on Friday, March 7.

A total of 388 Arcadia freshmen and transfer students left for 14 countries spread across four continents: Austria, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Greece, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Romania, South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

English major Devin Stricklang ’17, who is taking the course “Cultural Crossover and Change,” was excited to explore castles in Romania through the program, adding “I’ve never been outside the country or even on a plane.”

For 21 years, Preview has served not only as a first time abroad for many students but also as an avenue to continue traveling. Psychology major Laura Reinert ’17 has been to many places, including Ecuador and Aruba, and is now headed to Austria as part of the Preview course “Music and Culture in Austria.”

“I play the flute, the piano, and I’m learning to play the violin, so I love music,” said Reinert. “That’s what I’m most excited about.”

Also going to Austria, Dan D’Albis ’17 traveled to Switzerland and Italy in high school. Being an experienced traveler, the acting major found one worry does not dissipate.

“The luggage thing is always scary,” said D’Albis regarding the possibility of losing bags on the flight. “I hope I’m not jinxing myself!”

Join the Arcadia University community in the Commons on Friday, April 4, for Global Expo, where students share Preview stories, photos, and discoveries from 3 to 5 p.m. The community also can view some of the top photography from this year’s Preview courses via the Preview Photo Contest and Signpost, an exhibit with Arcadia’s Art Research Collaboration (ARC) Exhibition Program in late March.
