Senior Shannon Massott of the Arcadia University women’s golf team has been named to the 2013-14 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s At-Large Team, which is selected by the sports information offices of the 28 NCAA Division I, II and III institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

A psychology major (pre-physical therapy) with a 3.34 cumulative grade point average, Massott is the No. 1 golfer for the Knights. She earned medalist honors after placing first overall at the FDU-Florham Spring Invitational last week, and was the runner-up at tournaments hosted by Lebanon Valley College and Ursinus College this season.

Massott earned First-Team All-Conference honors after placing fifth overall at the 2013 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship, making her the first All-Conference performer in program history. She led Arcadia to a 3-1 dual meet record as a junior, which saw her post an average score of 84.375 per round.

Massot was one of just two NCAA Division III student-athletes to make the 11-member 2013-14 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s At-Large Team. She was joined by Neumann senior women’s ice hockey player Edie Brenning.

Massott is the first-ever women’s golfer at Arcadia to be named to the academic all-area team, and is the second Arcadia student-athlete to be named to an academic all-area team this year. Junior Kim Canfield was named to the women’s soccer academic all-area team in the fall, and was named the 2013 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic Performer of the Year.
