Cynthia M. Planita, MST, CPA, assistant professor of accounting in the School of Global Business, published an article, “For Better or for Worse: Will the Repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act Bring Couples Happiness?” in the Journal of Financial Service Professionals on Jan. 1.

The article focuses on the tax planning issues that same-sex married couples need to address as a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling in United States v. Windsor. Throughout the article, Planita explains the difference between those who “will enjoy tax benefits from their new status” and those who “will suffer tax consequences.”
