The genetic counseling program had a strong showing at the Annual Education Conference (AEC) for the National Society of Genetic Counselors in New Orleans this September. This year, more than 1,500 genetic counselors from across the country attended the AEC.

Eight of 17 Arcadia graduates from the Class of 2014 presented thesis work: Five projects were shared as posters and three were accepted for presentation as contributed papers. In addition, Kathleen January presented a poster on the preliminary results of her thesis project, “A Multidisciplinary Approach to Individualized Management of Cornelia de Lange Syndrome at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia: The Parent’s Perspective,” and Brian Schoenfeld presented a poster from his research at the University of Pennsylvania before attending the genetic counseling program on “Insulin Misregulation underlies circadian and Cognitive deficits in Drosophila Fragile X model.”

Faculty presented at the conference as well. Kathy Valverde, program director, presented a paper on the “Oral History of Genetic Counseling Licensure.”
