Shama Khan ’14M received an award from the New York Mid-Atlantic Consortium for Genetics and Newborn Screening Services (NYMAC), funding a project to educate members of the Muslim community about the importance of examining family history when considering marriage and family planning.

Khan, a prenatal genetic counselor at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J., presented on the project during the consortium’s 2015 conference in Baltimore, Md. Genetic counselors Luba Djurdjinovic and Alissa Terry of the Ferre Institute in Binghamton, N.Y., also worked on the project.
