Biology students Deena Damschroder ’16 and Delaena Cline ’16, with Assistant Professor of Biology Dr. Brie Paddock, presented their research on Alzheimer’s at the Experimental Biology Conference in San Diego, April 2-6.

Damschroder’s research, “Dietary restriction exacerbates memory loss in a Drosophila model of Alzheimer’s disease,” showed that although certain nutrients could not stop the deterioration of Alzheimer’s patients’ memory, it did play a key role in the progress the disease. She presented at both the undergraduate poster session and the Nutrition and Nutrient Metabolism section.

Cline’s research, “The Effects of Hyperglycemia on insulin resistance in a Drosophila model of Alzheimer’s disease,” looked at the effect of Type 2 Diabetes in Alzheimer’s patients. She presented at both the undergraduate poster session and the Physiology section.
