Dr. Eleonora Bartoli, associate professor and director of Arcadia’s Master’s program in Counseling, was selected to chair the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) after chairing its Masters in Counseling Accreditation Committee since 2013.

As chair, Dr. Bartoli will work with the Executive Director and board to further progress the council in its standard revision, as well as continue the recognition process for the Council of Higher Education for Accreditation.

MPCAC accredits master’s programs that educate students in the science-based practice of counseling and psychological services. Dr. Bartoli said MPCAC is unique in how it accredits its programs, since the council has standards based on outcomes rather than content.

“Content area can change, what’s most up-to-date can change, but the outcomes and the relevance of those outcomes are much more stable,” Dr. Bartoli said. “We as an accrediting body help programs be the best they can be to serve the needs of each state.”

Arcadia is in its second accreditation cycle, which will end in 2021. Dr. Bartoli said that each program is accredited for a maximum of 10 years.

“I would have never been able to do this in the least without the support of first, [Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Arcadia] Dr. John Hoffman and second, [Chair of Psychology at Arcadia] Steve Robbins,” Dr. Bartoli said. “They have provided me with time, financial resources, and strategic support, and without that Arcadia would never have been so central in this endeavor.”
