Arcadia University Theater opens its 2016-17 season with Tony Award winning playwright Stephen Karam’s, “Speech & Debate.”  This dark comedy runs Friday, Oct. 7 to Sunday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. in Arcadia’s Little Theatre, with matinee showings on Saturday and Sunday.

“Speech & Debate” begins when budding journalist Solomon uncovers a sex scandal at his high school. He sets out to expose the truth by pressuring fellow high school misfits Diwata and Howie to share what they know. But as it turns out, Diwata and Howie each have an agenda of their own. How far will Solomon go in pursuit of his story? Accusations fly, secrets are revealed, and songs are belted out in this dark comedy about coming-of-age in the Internet era.

“These characters are so relatable,” said Kristopher Karcher ’17, who plays Howie in the play. “Everyone feels lost in high school. These characters have a lot to figure out, and it’s really fun navigating their journeys.”
