Michelle Reale, associate professor and faculty librarian for English and Music, published a new chapbook, The Marie Curie Sequence, through Dancing Girl Press. This collection of prose poems looks at the life of Marie Curie and her courage in being a mother, wife, and a career woman, during a time where women in the scientific field were unsupported.

“I feel that women need role models that are accessible,” said Reale. “[Curie’s] scientific accomplishments are known the world over, but few have had any insight into the difficulties she had fulfilling so many roles at a time when it was not something many women had the courage or support to do. For me, poetry can lift the veil on lives like this and, through evocative language, touch universal experience which might otherwise go unnoticed.”

Reale will also publish a full-length poetry collection about African and Syrian refugees titled Conifine: Poems of Refugees in Sicily in 2018.
