Arcadia’s Educational Leadership doctoral program will host “Undoing Pennsylvania’s School Funding Crisis” on Thursday, March 29 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in Landman Library’s Beaver College Room. Dr. Marc Brasof, assistant professor of Education, will facilitate a discussion on inequitable school funding led by Michael Churchill, a representative from the Public Interest Law Center, and Susan Spicka, interim director of Education Voters of PA.

In compliance with Pennsylvania State Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2016 William Penn School District v. Pennsylvania Department of Education lawsuit, the Commonwealth Court has been ordered to consider a case that seeks to ensure all students have access to a high-quality public education. If successful, aggressive lobbying efforts will be necessary to correct the impact of inequitable funding in school districts across the Commonwealth.

Churchill, who joined the Law Center in 1976 and previously served as managing partner and co-director, is the attorney overseeing the case.

A recently elected school board member in Shippensburg, Spicka has been advocating reform since 2011. In response to funding cuts, she co-founded Education Matters in the Cumberland Valley, a grassroots organization that supports quality public education policies.
