Dr. Kalenda Eaton, associate professor of English, hosted the eighth annual Regional Undergraduate Student Research Conference at Arcadia on Feb. 24. Nearly 50 students from the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, Lincoln University, and Arcadia University presented research and posters that explored connections between academics and activism in college settings.

Arcadia students Megan Moro ’18, representing the Historical and Political Studies Department, earned a first place prize for best paper presentation on a panel, and John Carr ’18, representing Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice, won second place for best poster presentation.

“My thesis is centered around the neighborhood characteristics in North Philadelphia and how those characteristics contribute to the area’s crime rate,” said Carr, who discussed the toll on residential life, Temple University’s gentrification, and the city’s lack of support. “I wanted to bring to light a different story about the people of a lower income area that’s being taken over by a big business.”
