Dr. Campbell Presents At Popular & American Culture Conference
Dr. Bruce Campbell, associate professor of Education, presented “What Does the Soundtrack of the Revolution Sound Like?” during the Race, Revolution, and Hip-Hop session of the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association Conference held in Baltimore, Md., on Nov. 10.
Dr. Campbell’s paper focused on curated black music and artwork that provided a portion of the soundtrack for the civil rights movement, from the 60s to the present. Exploring the context in which the music was created, Dr. Campbell increased the historical understanding and consciousness of the audience through social justice-oriented records of the past and encouraged empowerment through lesser-heard liberation records of the present.
