Education Alumni Ranked Among Philly’s Best Teachers
Six School of Education graduates were featured in a Philly.com article highlighting 2019 Lindback Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award winners from the School District of Philadelphia:
- Denise Piotrowski Eiler ’06MEd (Educational Leadership), a social studies teacher at Baldi Middle School who “challenges her students to think critically and nurtures their growth.”
- Michelle Grey ’09MEd (Special Education and Teaching), a “driven education leader skilled in providing specially designed instruction to students with a wide variety of disabilities” at Lankenau Environmental Science High School.
- Megan McNamara ’13MEd (Secondary Education and Teaching), a “revered English teacher who engages and motivates students to do their best work” at Philadelphia High School for Girls.
- Kathleen Paul ’99M (Education, Health Education), a health and physical education teacher and coach who “has cultivated a positive and nurturing community” at George Washington High School.
- Rachael Pringle ’06 MEd (Elementary Education), a Fitler Elementary teacher whose “expectations are her hallmark,” but who recognizes that “children don’t all learn in the same way.”
- Bernard John Stuetz ’19M (Education Literacy Studies), an eighth-grade ESOL teacher at Mayfair Elementary who “focuses on social justice issues and strives to support families in very practical ways.”
Since 2008, the Lindback Award has celebrated excellence in education. Recipients received a $3,500 prize and were honored at a ceremony at the Philadelphia Film Society in May.
