Dr. Dean Talks on Options for Students During COVID-19 Pandemic on Fox29
As higher education institutions announce plans for the fall, some families are struggling with the decisions of paying tuition for online courses versus having their students take a gap year.
Dr. Kim Dean, assistant professor of Education, was featured on the Fox29 Good Day Philadelphia segment “College students wondering about next school year amid coronavirus pandemic” on July 9. Dr. Dean discussed options for families and students who are considering alternative options, such as community college or a gap year. Dr. Dean explained the process of deferring a college acceptance, making the most of a gap year, and the value of internships or apprenticeships.
“Universities want to work with you; it’s a long-term relationship. If [a gap year] is something that’s good for you, then definitely reach out and talk to the admissions folks,” said Dr. Dean. “Speak to them about community college courses or what kind of experience might be valuable, and what will bring more value to the 4-year college experience.”
