Arcadia’s Library Services
Landman Library aims to support Arcadia’s academic programs, regardless of their format or location. To this end, we collect and organize books, films, and other materials related to curricular and academic needs and interests of the college. We also provide reference and research assistance, classroom instruction on information literacy, and a comfortable, welcoming environment with appropriate spaces and technologies for studying.
Reference and Research Assistance
Reference Librarians can assist students, faculty, and staff with finding resources on their topic. We will also be glad to show you how to search our library catalog and online databases and how to find things in the library. For extended help, consider making an appointment with the appropriate librarian for your subject.
Instruction
The mission of Landman Library is not only to build a research collection but also to teach the faculty and students how to use these resources. Moreover, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education has called information literacy one of its “an essential component of any educational program.” Faculty are strongly encouraged to schedule library instruction for themselves and/or their classes. To request an instruction session, please use our online request form or contact the appropriate reference librarian.
InterLibrary Loan
Arcadia students and faculty may place requests for materials that our library does not have. An online form is available to submit requests. You will be notified when your item has arrived in the library. Please direct questions to the Library Assistant for Technical Services.
Reserves
Faculty may place assigned readings for a class, as well as videos or DVDs they would like students to view, on reserve at the Circulation Desk. These can be items we have in the library or the faculty member’s own copy.
Faculty are asked to complete the reserve request form and to provide copies of reserves that the library does not own. Faculty are responsible for complying with copyright guidelines. Please contact Michelle Reale, Circulation Supervisor, with any question concerning academic reserves.
Acquisitions
Arcadia faculty are encouraged to send the library requests to acquire particular books, DVDs, or other materials. The librarians also actively make recommendations. All purchases are subject to the approval of the appropriate department head. To place a request, faculty may submit a request card or contact Adam Hess, Director of Landman Library (hessa@arcadia.edu) or use the acquisitions form.
