About Gateway to Success/Act 101
The Gateway to Success Program gives access and academic support to students who are academically underprepared, but have demonstrated the potential to succeed at Arcadia. We consider your high school grades, intended major, and standardized test scores (if submitted). The Act 101 portion provides additional support and services to students who are Pennsylvania residents and meet an income criteria.
Students are selected through the admissions process, and are then invited to be a part of the program. Once students are selected for our program, they may be required or given the option to participate in our summer bridge program prior to their first year. During the five-week summer bridge program, students live on campus, are enrolled in three college classes, and participate in activities and workshops designed to jump start to their college experience. As our students affectionately say “Once Gateway family, always Gateway family!”

Mission
The Gateway to Success/Act 101 Program exists to:
- Assist students in improving their academic skills such as study skills, and time management that are crucial for success at the college-level.
- Guide students in navigating the landscape of Arcadia University to enhance their academic abilities by introducing them to the campus community, and resources.
- Connect students with an academic adviser within the Gateway program.
We accomplish our mission by facilitating programs and providing resources for students beginning as early as the summer bridge session before their first year. Being “college-ready” requires autonomy, self-management, and study skills. Our program will engage you in college classes and academic resources—such as tutoring and the Writing Center—during the summer bridge program. The objective of these opportunities is to ease the transition to classes in the fall.
Program Requirements
Students in our program will:
- Meet individually with program staff throughout each academic semester to identify, adjust if needed, and stay on track with personal, academic, and professional goals.
- Have an assigned a peer mentor if they participate in the summer bridge session. Your peer mentor will be an academically successful upper class Arcadia student who will share their college experience, answer questions, and facilitate fun, interactive workshops.
- Access support and services such as tutoring, the Writing Center, Student Affairs, and academic advising within the Gateway program.
- Participate in planned educational workshops and activities through the semester.
- Take the required learning strategies course (ID100: Becoming a Lifelong Learner) to acquire the information needed to be a successful student at Arcadia.
