Dr. Jacob Corey is an alumnus of the University of Delaware’s DPT/PhD program, a licensed physical therapist in the state of Pennsylvania, and a clinician-researcher committed to inclusive health and community-engaged scholarship. His clinical background is rooted in pediatric physical therapy, with a specialization in school-based practice supporting children with intellectual, developmental, and neurological disabilities. Dr. Corey’s professional interests include pediatric physical therapy, autism research, community-based participatory methods, and the development of socially responsive clinicians. His research focuses on improving health, participation, and quality of life for neurodivergent individuals and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities through mixed methods inquiry, patient-centered intervention design, and implementation science. He is the co-founder and president of Happy Valley FitLink, a nonprofit organization that provides free wellness classes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through this work, Dr. Corey explores the dual impact of community-based wellness programs—enhancing student development while promoting physical activity and psychological well-being in participants. A passionate community programmer, he leads two adaptive group exercise classes weekly via Zoom and advocates for physical therapist involvement in community wellness initiatives. Dr. Corey’s recent work includes a mixed methods investigation of physical activity habits and experiences in children with autism using mixed-methods design and designing novel movement interventions using innovative tools such as exergaming. He has presented at the APTA Pediatrics and APTA CSM conferences and contributes to interdisciplinary projects that bridge clinical care, research, and community service.
